On the first day of school, the corridors echoed with a sense of anticipation as students and teachers gathered from their fourth period class to the Auditorium. From there, the ASB guided the crowd into their seats and students were delighted to see their friends in other periods. The assembly started off with a senior entrance, commemorating the fact that they finally reached their last year of their high school career. “I cannot believe I am in my last year of high school and I’m so proud of my fellow peers who have worked with me since Kindergarten,” Christopher Deng, 12, said.
The new ASB officers were sworn into office and will ensure their fellow peers are in for a great year. “I am glad to be in ASB this year alongside my friends and I am excited to create many fun events for the student body,” Shanaya Jasim, 11, said. In addition, the assembly introduced Dr. Benjamin Wolfe, who will take the lead as our new principal. Amid the excitement, Dr. Wolfe took the stage, discussed the impeccable reputation of San Marino High and expressed his excitement in working with students and teachers in creating a productive year.
Assembly Day provided the perfect opportunity to introduce new teachers including Ms. Arellano, Mrs. Carlton, Ms. Mollina, Mr. Frias, Mr. Valles, and Mrs. Hsu. Each new teacher was able to introduce themselves and were welcomed with enthusiastic applause. In order to bring an element of lightheartedness, they participated in a musical chairs game and stepped out of their usual roles as teachers. Laughter filled the auditorium as the teachers danced, laughed, and playfully competed in a game where Dr. Wolfe swooped in, took the last chair, and became the winner.
From seniors receiving recognition to the new principal taking the reins in providing the best education for the students and providing a great working environment for the teachers, the Assembly Day exemplified the school’s dedication to tradition despite being faced by change. As the students left the auditorium, the echoes of applause and laughter lingered, reminding everyone that the Titan spirit thrives.
