After a dominant and decisive victory at Rosemead, winning 42-6 in a game where typical bench players saw large amounts of action, the Crescenta Valley Falcons made the twenty minute drive down the 210 Freeway to San Marino to battle the 3-0 Titans. After the Falcons lost a heartbreaker a week earlier, they were ready to take out the frustrations on an undefeated opponent, and in the first half, the game remained very close. Defenses reigned supreme, as the clock struck zeros at the end of the half, the score was 14-9, Crescenta Valley.
Who knows what went on at halftime, but as the second half began, Crescenta Valley came out hungry. “They were a different team in the second. Both their offense and defense played on another level,” JJ Wilson, 11, said. And the Falcons played on another level indeed. Their aggressive style of football was something the Titans had yet to see this season, going for multiple onside kicks when it was not expected and taking several deep shots down the field. Both of these strategies worked incredibly for Crescenta Valley. They managed to keep the ball out of the Titans’ hands while maintaining all momentum with their bold offensive play calling. Their defense held firm too, pitching a second half shutout, while the offense added three Falcon touchdowns to the scoreboard. What was expected to be a close game turned out to be a blowout, with the final score being Crescenta Valley, 35, San Marino, 9.
Despite this loss to what is undeniably the best team the Titans have played this season, next week comes what is expected to be an incredibly easy game against Wilson. “We just have to keep moving forward,” Wilson said. With Wilson High School up next and league play to follow, the football team remains determined to go out and attempt to snatch the league title for themselves.
