After a full semester filled with tedious classes and preparation for AP exams, the students look forward to one specific dance: Prom. With the theme this year being Under the CIty Stars, students can expect a dark scenery with many activities fitting to the theme of stars. This dance takes away the stress of AP exams and the end of the year finals, giving students a break from their tedious schedule to hang out with their friends under the stars.
On May 4th, 7pm, located at the Skirball Cultural Center, the prom began. Upon entrance, there were trained dogs to detect any unusual substances and teachers to greet you. Once entering the venue, there were many flashing lights in the dark entrance. Many drink stands covered the venue, serving drinks such as shirley temples and roy rodgers. There were many activities to do, including the cartoon portrait drawings and circular video booth, giving many students an opportunity to capture these memories in a unique way. After about a half hour, the food was served. The menu consisted of many options, ranging from pasta and salads to a dessert bar with cookies and tarts. About a couple hours after, it was time to announce prom king and queen.
Although the actual prom dance is filled with many memories and experiences, the activities one does before and after are arguably just as memorable. For example, junior Bailey Mena shares her experiences before and after her prom. According to Mena, she “went on a party bus with her friends after taking pictures and getting ready with the girls. And after the prom [she] went back to her friend’s house and hung out for the remainder of the night.” While these experiences are unique from each person, the experience wouldn’t be quite complete without these key components of the prom before and after the dance.
Therefore, this prom themed Under the City Stars included a plethora of activities for students to partake in, easing the stress of AP tests and finals by providing a memorable experience.
