One of the new members of our faculty is a familiar face to many students, as Mr. Kristopher Good joins the staff after many years of teaching eighth grade history at Huntington Middle School. This year, Mr. Good is teaching AP United States History, regular United States History, and one period of Oral Interpretation, or Speech and Debate. Something Mr. Good has experienced in his first week on campus that no other new teacher has over their first couple weeks on campus is interacting with students he taught back at the middle school. “Seeing all my old eighth graders as almost adults has been one of my favorite parts about the first week,” Mr. Good said.
As he mentioned at the assembly on the first day of school, Mr. Good has the rare talent of the ability to play the bagpipes, which he showcased to his students back at Huntington. On top of this, he is learning to fly a plane through a group that maintains aircraft from the Second World War and takes them on flights. He is also an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, and on game days occasionally rocks his Broncos suit, an orange suit full of Broncos logos. Like many other members of Broncos Country, he firmly believes Bo Nix is the solution to the last eight years of terrible Broncos football. If you want to talk pro football, Mr. Good is the guy to go to.
At Huntington, U.S. History only goes up to around the Civil War era, leaving large amounts of new topics to be taught by Mr. Good for the first time. “The technology, the craziness, and the horror of World War II is always an interesting topic although a little to scary to talk about,” Mr. Good stated. “But I also really want to know more myself about the Roaring 20s, the New Deal, and some of the early 1900s stuff that I do not know much about yet, but I have to teach.” With the vastness of topics to cover in U.S. history, it should be a fun year in Mr. Good’s classes.
After seven years down the street, Mr. Good now occupies room 404, between two of his fellow history department teachers Mr. Holcomb and Mr. Slimp. “Meeting my new coworkers in the history department has been really great this past week,” Mr. Good added. Alongside Ms. Hempsey, he will teach the U.S. history classes and will instruct speech and debate alongside Mr. Slimp.
