One of President-Elect Trump’s newest and most prominent changes in policy is his implementation of the Department of Government Efficiency, or the DOGE.
Led by the Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the DOGE will try to “dismantle the Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies”, as written in a statement from Trump. The DOGE will directly partner with the White House and “create an entrepreneurial approach to government never seen before”. Trump has given them two years to enact the desired changes, but Musk has boldly promised that the “cleaning out” of the government will only require around two months of time.
In his statement, Trump compared this endeavor to the Manhattan Project, reinforcing Musk’s claim that “this will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!”. The establishment of this new department has arisen due to the belief from the Republican Party that the government has been incredibly inefficient in its policies and employees. Much of this doubt in the government stem from what people deem DEI hires as well as large amounts of money being sent to departments of government and sectors of society that the Republican Party deems unnecessary.
