The first day of school is a day of many firsts. From freshmen opening new lockers to seniors laughing about their senior backpacks, August 13th marked the beginning of the new and exciting school year.
And if anyone felt the most excitement, it was the freshmen. For them, it wasn’t just the first day of school, it was also the first day of high school. Their morning began in the small gym where they met new faces and their Link Crew groups. While freshmen were busy with orientation from 8:00 to 11:30 am, sophomores, juniors, and seniors took their ID photos and visited the library to pick up textbooks for their classes.
From 11:30-12:10, the campus came alive with lunch and club recruitment. Food trucks like Paradise Ice Cream, Austyn’s Burgers, and Chano’s served delicious meals, drinks, and desserts. And while students got to enjoy tacos, ice cream sandwiches, and fries, clubs like Women in STEM, ACTS, and Astronomy set up booths to meet and recruit prospective members.
After lunch, students gathered in the auditorium for the First Day Assembly. Seniors kicked things off by sprinting through the aisles and onto the stage to celebrate the start of their senior year. Chamber Choir followed with a heartfelt performance of the alma mater, offering a warm welcome to all. New staff members including chemistry teacher Dr. David Cameron, Assistant Principal Mrs. Emilie Hill, and math teacher Mr. Ryan Eid were introduced and warmly received by the student body. Performances by Dance Company and Cheer electrified the crowd, exciting students for their first day. Next, ASB officers were officially sworn in by Principal Dr. Benjamin Wolf. Students not only got to meet their representatives but were inspired by their plans and announcements for the upcoming year. The assembly wrapped up on a fun note with a game of Simon Says, where senior Aldo Cali won in style with a backflip.
To conclude the first day, students met with each of their classes for twenty minutes. These brief classes gave students a chance to meet their teachers and classmates and ease into the academic year with a stress-free introduction.
