AP art opened the year with an art reception displaying two creative murals on September 4, 2025. Students from Period 6 showcased the collaborative mural “Coloring Our World,” an imaginative piece blending both creativity and ordinary objects found in a classroom. The piece depicted the sky and water through two main figures, displaying how community and creativity go hand in hand. Additionally, each student was portrayed as a tiny figure to mirror classroom dynamics. Students first created their own pieces and voted for their favorite concept. Upon choosing a concept, students began their work on a 6×12 poster. Although the class met the deadline, they struggled with certain aspects such as layering base colors, outlines, and shading. Overall, the class was able to learn a lot from the project. “The project definitely helped our class with getting familiar with each other and forming connections. Many of our students are in varying grades or have previously never met,” Erin Hsu, 12, said.
Period 1 also displayed their collaborative mural, “Vitamin Sea.” Students made colored sketches and voted on their favorite concept: a chopped-up fish with its pieces depicting orange slices. The mural’s unique concept demonstrated a sense of refreshment and energy with the vitamin aspect. As the concept began to take shape, students began sketching their concept on a 6×12 canvas. While the final product came out beautifully, students struggled with the crowdedness. “For the process part, it was pretty fun, but it was also difficult because a lot of people were working on one piece and usually artists have varying art styles. We had to communicate and figure things out even though we weren’t very familiar with each other,” Eliana Wang, 11, said. Despite facing challenges, students were able to communicate and interact with each other and become more comfortable, working as a team, for future projects
