Dr. Caban joins San Marino as the new English Language Development (ELD) teacher, bringing over 12 years of experience in education and a passion for helping students discover a love of language. She hopes to foster a learning environment where speaking, listening, reading, and writing are all celebrated.
“[My students] are the most intelligent students on campus in the sense that they speak multiple languages. I think that’s just such an asset,” Dr. Caban said.
Originally from New York, Dr. Caban began her teaching journey after working abroad in India, where she taught English and was inspired to pursue a new career. She returned to New York to earn her master’s degree in TESOL before moving to California. Since then, she has taught in South Los Angeles and Glendale Unified, and she currently works as a Teacher on Special Assignment while also teaching here on campus. She also earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on English as a second language.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Caban is a world traveler and adventurer. She set a goal at 15 to visit all seven continents and achieved it, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, motorcycling through the Himalayas, and exploring countries around the globe. She’s also an avid reader and a fan of Gilmore Girls. She loves Gilmore Girls so much that she named her daughter Lorelai after the main character.
With her expertise, adventurous spirit, and deep appreciation for language, Dr. Caban is excited to get to know our students and help them thrive.
