Mr. Lommel joins our school as the new instrumental music teacher, bringing a passion for music education and a commitment to helping students grow as both musicians and individuals. “I want students to have enjoyment for music and growth as human beings, learners, and musicians,” Mr. Lommel said.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. Lommel earned his undergraduate degree in music education before starting his career teaching middle school band. After teaching in Indiana for a year, he decided to relocate to Los Angeles and was drawn to our school’s band program, which inspired him to apply for his current position.
Mr. Lommel’s primary instrument is the trombone, though as a music educator, he has learned to play a wide range of instruments. When asked which instrument he would be if he could choose, he sticks with his favorite, the trombone. Outside of teaching, he has an adventurous side, having once gone skydiving.
When it comes to favorites, Mr. Lommel enjoys Game of Thrones, the movie Interstellar, and the novel, not the movie, Jurassic Park.
With his strong background, enthusiasm for teaching, and dedication to his students’ growth, Mr. Lommel is excited to continue building the school’s band program.
