Top 10 Christmas Songs Ranked

After a wild year, the holiday season is finally among us. The annual routine of hearing Christmas songs wherever you go may be a little different, since many of us will be staying home to do the holiday shopping online. So if you’re looking for a way to get into the Christmas spirit at home, here is a list of the top 10 Christmas songs to listen to to get into the Yuletide spirit.

  1. “Silent Night” by Bing Crosby

To begin the list at number 10 is “Silent Night” by Bing Crosby. Crosby’s voice has become the voice of Christmas, with countless classics such as this one. The soft instrumentals along with Crosby’ melodic voice make it an excellent song for the holidays.  

  1. “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano

Written in 1970 by Puerto Rican singer and songwriter José Feliciano, this classic holiday song has become a favorite for many. Its Spanish chorus and upbeat guitar is part of the reason that it is one of the most downloaded Christmas songs of all time.

  1. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee

This is a song that you’ll never be able to escape no matter where you are during the Christmas season. The classic catchy and upbeat song often finds its way back on the charts every year, becoming a holiday favorite. During the 2019 Christmas season, this song became so popular that it reached the #2 spot in the Billboard charts.

  1. “Blue Christmas” by Elvis Presley

In 1957, Elvis Presley released his version of the song “Blue Christmas,” originally written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson. Presley’s version immediately popularized the song and it was then covered by several other artists later on. It is a classic holiday tune sprinkled with sadness that tugs at many heartstrings every year.

It often reclaims its place in the charts every holiday season, and it is a song you are destined to hear on the radio at some point.

This merry and bright song remains one of the frequent radio requests during the Christmas season. Its cheerful delivery with the classic pop song sound makes for an uplifting and exciting listen; it is one of the best Christmas songs, giving it a solid spot at #5.

  1. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams  

Like the previous songs mentioned, this is a song you are destined to hear at some point during the Christmas season; it’s inescapable! The descriptive lyrics of all the Christmas activities that await this season are great for getting into the spirit. The loud and triumphant instrumental along with the ringing of the bells, and the deep voice of Williams make for a very fun listen during the happiest season of all.

  1. “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” Michael Bublé  

Originally written in 1951 by Meredith Willson, this song has been covered by many other artists and remained popular during the holiday season. One of the best covers however, was released by Michael Bublé in 2011. Bublé has remained one of the most popular voices to take over radio during Christmastime, and his version of this song brings many who listen into the holiday spirit; which is why it takes the #3 spots on this list.

Since 1935, Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” has become one of the most well known Christmas songs of all time, since having sold 50 million copies. The classic holiday tune has a slower, more chilled back pace, and the amazing vocals of Crosby along with the gentle instrumental make for a merry listen.

  1. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey  

Since 1994, this song has reclaimed its place in the charts every holiday season, being one of the most memorable Christmas songs to ever be released. Almost everyone can recognize it from the twinkling melody and the catchy keyboard notes that lead into the first verse. The uplifting chorus is sure to bring anyone into the Christmas spirit, which is why it takes the crown of the Number 1 spot.  

Honorable Mentions:  “The Little Drummer Boy” by Bing Crosby  This song is another classic and a favorite to many people, however I don’t think it has a definitive ranking, which is why it’s just an Honorable Mention. The lyrics describe the little drummer boy playing his drum for baby Jesus. The heartwarming lyrics like “He smiled at me” are the reason this is one of the best Christmas songs and the deep melodic voice of Crosby add the perfect touch to this song.
