Our school’s fall play has just been announced: Almost, Maine. The auditions took place in the Webb Theater on August 31, 2021 and September 1, 2021. Over the two days, nearly 30 students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, auditioned for the roles.

Almost, Maine auditions had a fantastic student turnout of committed actors. It was very difficult to cast the show with the number of talented individuals who showed up. Although, I will always be happy with more students trying out!” Mr. Daniel Hernandez, drama teacher and director, said.

Gathered outside of the theater, young actors practiced their lines before being called in–in pairs, to reflect how the play is structured. The play consists of 11 short scenes where different couples from the town of Almost, Maine, fall in and out of love.

Almost, Maine is a romantic play that speaks to many different people on various levels. Each scene is a self contained play that has wonderful storytelling that allows the actors to shine. Put all those scenes together and you have the makings of a terrific night of entertainment. And in the end that is what we are here to do- to entertain,” Mr. Hernandez said.

Titan Shield interviewed two freshmen who hope to get roles in the play.

“Ever since my first play, I have grown an interest for acting,” Nikki Yamamoto (9), who was part of the Mulan cast when she was in 6th grade, said. She added that she appreciates, “being able to coordinate scenes with people that I did not know but after the play we are all great friends. That’s part of the experience.”

Anni Zhao (9) said she was hoping to make the play, too. “I’ve tried out for a play before, but I didn’t make it, so I’m interested in trying again,” she said.

“We love and are appreciative of the support from the community and we would not be where we are without their support and commitment to the arts!” Mr. Hernandez said. Performance dates are Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 pm, Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 pm, and Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7:00 pm. Make sure to see it.
