Since their establishment back in 2012, the Titan badminton team has quickly risen to become one of the better programs on campus. They boast CIF titles, including a D1 championship four years ago, along with berths in CIF almost every the program has existed. The only coed team on campus has managed to once again prove their strength, and made it to CIF, with a first round game against Lakewood on Monday, May 8th.

In a season that was full of tough matchups against other strong badminton schools, which include South Pasadena, Alhambra, and Arcadia, the Lakewood game appeared to be a very favorable matchup for the Titans. Morale was high amongst the team, but an early strong showing from the Lancers gave them an early lead. “At first, were losing to Lakewood by a few games,” captain Emma Lo said, “and to be honest I thought we were going to lose.” However, this early deficit proved to be overcomeable for the Titans, and a mid to late match rally pushed to Titans over the edge. Four straight wins, in the end, propelled the Titans from a 9-8 deficit into a 12-9 win. The rally started with just one simple win, almost minuscule in the sense of the 21 games played over the course of the whole match, but a spark was lit, and the drove the Titan badminton squad to yet another victory in CIF. As the postseason goes, the badminton team hopes to add another CIF title to the Titan trophy case, and bring a banner home just as they’ve done before.
