As spring dove under the horizon and summer began to rise, the student cabinet elections for next year have begun. Once the fourth period bell rang, the student body all gathered in the Neher auditorium to listen to the election speeches and vote for the school cabinet. The assembly began with a short presentation from the administration which was swiftly followed by the main purpose behind the assembly; ASB speeches. The competition this year was fierce as candidates from all grades presented their speeches and promises for the upcoming year. The speeches began with future sophomores, followed by rising juniors, seniors, and those running for ASB positions. This year, the candidates meticulously crafted their speeches, some advocating for change while others lightened the atmosphere with their sense of humor.
The future sophomore class saw fierce competitions for spots, as most of the positions were greatly contested between one another. As each finished their speeches, they were met with applause and cheers of support and approval. While secretary and treasurer remain undecided, Marcus Chen was elected as class president, Riley Foong as vice president, and Hali Glasse as social chair. “I was very shocked when I got the news, but I think keeping it real with my classmates helped me win this election. I honestly think this is a great opportunity to show everyone what I am capable of,” Marcus Chen, 9, said.
Fresh from their roles as sophomores, the junior class representatives had a less fierce competition this year. Nonetheless, their roles were critical, as the new class cabinet will be given the task of planning stress relief activities for all the juniors during the following school year. As the fierce competitions came to an end, Jennifer Ko was elected president, Jane Kang as vice president, Winston Chou as secretary, Taylor Hwang as treasurer, and Preston Tong as social chair. “Running for junior class vice president requires candidates to obtain 50 signatures and fill out a variety of forms to be considered. After the election results were released, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I was elected for vice president,” Jane Kang, 10, said.
After the underclassmen presented their speeches, the spotlight was on the future senior class representatives. For seniors, these elections represent a culmination of their time in high school, and they hold the responsibility to make senior year memorable and fun for the students. Finally, Carlo Repetto was elected senior class president, Abby Geng as vice president, Hilary Zheng as secretary, Daniel Wong as treasurer and social chair was appointed to Valerie Zhu.
Finally, the elections for ASB neared, and Justin Lin was appointed ASB president, with Kenzie Chu as vice president, Nate Sun for secretary, Claire Huang as treasurer, and Rowan Burke as one of the two athletics commissioners, with the other remaining undecided.
With these new positions secured, there’s no doubt the upcoming school year will include many fun spirit activities and electrifying pep rallies as well. The newly elected cabinets will begin to work to fulfill their responsibilities and plan unforgettable events, advocate for change, and play a critical role in creating memorable events for the students next year. One thing is certain, the new student body will set the stage for an exciting year ahead and shape the trajectory of student activities.
