The varsity girls volleyball team started their CIF playoff run with a strong win over Camarillo on October 22 in a hard five set match. The game was full of energy from start to finish with the team showing immense effort and keeping a positive attitude.
From the beginning of the match, the team came out ready to give it their all. Sydney Park, 12, and Audrey Hoffman, 12, were both crucial players on offense, scoring easily. Park had an amazing game with 32 kills, leading the team and giving them a big advantage in the game. On defense, Lila Wang, 9, and Ariminty Yu, 10, played important roles in keeping the ball in play and making smart defensive decisions. Serving was also another important part of the win with Phoebe Chen 11, being a dominant force behind the serving line, making great serves and playing well. “We had some ups and downs but overall, I’m proud of how we played,” Yu said.
The team won the first 2 sets with high energy and great defense. However, in the following 2 sets, Camarillo had a tighter defense. After the match went to the 5th set, the team kept going with high energy and confidence on the court. Even as Camarillo continued to push for the win, the Titans made sure to stay motivated and sharp. The team was able to celebrate with a well-earned victory as they carried through and won the 5th and final set. The first-round win against Camarillo advances girls varsity volleyball to the next stage of CIF. Their strong offense and defense demonstrated how hard they had been working towards the playoffs. “Overall, everyone played a big role in this game, and we played our best. We started and ended with lots of energy,” Makayla Wong, 9, said.
