The Girls Varsity Tennis Team has delivered major wins this season, defeating schools such as Temple City High School and Arcadia High School. Since the beginning of the season, the team has been consistently training to prepare for competition. “Tennis at SMHS has helped me with attaining many skills but teamwork has to be the best one yet. Being a doubles player, I always have to communicate with my partner and be a team player,” Ava Kohn,10, said.
Leading up to their match against La Cañada High School, the team focused on preparation and strategy. On September 23, 2025, the Titans achieved a decisive win over La Cañada with a final score of 17-1. This victory marked a strong start in the Rio Hondo League.
In singles matches, senior Katie-Lynn Hoang dominated with set scores of 6-0, 6-1, and 6-0. Fellow senior Olivia Hsu followed with consistent 6-0 wins across all her sets. Sophomore Ava Kohn also secured victories with scores of 6-3, 6-2, and 6-1. Sophomore Sophie Tran, playing as a substitute, earned a hard-fought win with a score of 7-5. “I wanted to join tennis because it was a great way to stay athletic while doing a sport, and it was also a great way to bond with my teammates,” Sophie Tran, 10, said.
The Doubles division also performed exceptionally well. Freshmen Kaitlyn Ho and junior Angela Wang earned scores of 6-0, 6-2, and 6-0. Alongside Ho and Wang, Sophomore Mia Truhanov and senior Kate Chung won all three of their sets with scores of 6-2. Senior Emily Xue and junior Audrey Ranabargar won one set together, 6-0, and freshman Setia Berenji, substituting for Ranabargar, continued the streak with another 6-0 win alongside Xue. “Tennis has allowed me to be more disciplined and competitive within my daily life,” Audrey Ranabargar, 11, said.
