The ASB Cabinet has approved five proposed clubs as of January 22nd, 2026, expanding the extensive list of student organizations. This step symbolizes an effort to make the campus more diverse and inclusive for all students. The newly approved clubs are Black Student Union, SM Thrift, Global Peer Support, Muslim Student Association, and Literary League. Three clubs on the approval lists are newly founded this year, while the other two, SM Thrift and Literary League, were last seen active in the 2022 and 2024 school year, respectively. As of now, other proposed clubs are still pending ASB’s final decision.
Some of the approved clubs have already indicated what they plan to do in order to achieve their mission. For SM Thrift, the plan includes collecting, upcycling, and then reselling second-hand clothing with the purpose being benefitting the community. The goal of SM Thrift is to reduce waste through clothing upcycling, while also providing profits to non-profit organizations that provide clothing to children in need. Global Peer Support, founded by international students and for international students and newcomers, will offer an inclusive space intended to provide an opportunity for international students to connect with those who grow up in San Marino in order to create peer connections, as well as to allow members to learn from each other’s experiences. Literary League is described as a book-club style group centered on reading and discussion, according to the club’s instagram account. Black Student Union and Muslim Student Association have not yet made their mission and activity plans public; however, it is anticipated that further information will be soon available as these new clubs navigate through the process of establishing a long-term goal.
So far, only one club has announced that it will hold an initial meeting: the first meeting of the SM Thrift club will take place Tuesday, January 27th, in Room 17 during lunch. Details for the other approved clubs, including meeting times, locations, and how students can join, are still awaiting updates. Students interested in participating can watch for future announcements from ASB and the clubs’ official instagram accounts as each club begins their activity. “We’re hoping these new clubs help more students enjoy school life and feel connected on campus, and we also hope it encourages more students to apply to start clubs in the future,” Grace Davis, ASB Vice President, said.
