Choir held their annual performance of Sweets and Songs in the foyer on October 3rd, representing the start of fall. The performance ran from 7:00pm to around 8:30pm and featured talented singers from both chamber choir and concert choir, along with the returning band from the past musical, Rock of Ages.
Upon arrival guests were greeted with tables full of meringues, cookies, and other sweet treats they could enjoy upon arrival. Every singer was required to bring their own sweet treat for the table. Students and families all gathered to enjoy both the sweets and the songs. Mr. Jamieson, the choir teacher, opened the evening by thanking everyone for their support and explained how Sweets and Songs is a special event that brings singers together and gives them a chance to showcase their skills. “I sang “How Could I Ever Know” from “The Secret Garden,” and I had a great experience with the first concert of the year,” Gwyneth McWilliams, 10, said.
The program included a variety of songs, some slow and emotional, like “Landslide” sung by Ella Karr, 12, and others being more upbeat, such as “The Way You Make Me Feel” sung by Ava Newton, 11. The returners from Rock Of Ages brought the same energy that they had shown in the musical, giving the overall night an unexpected touch. Between songs, guests enjoyed chatting and grabbing desserts students had brought. “This was my first concert at SMHS, and it was super fun. It was amazing singing with one of my closest friends, and I hope we get to sing together again soon,” Avery Littman, 11, said.
Throughout the night, the choir’s efforts paid off, with each song sounding clear and strong. As each performer went on, guests were cheering and showing support. By the end of the evening, the event wrapped up smoothly and students and families left with their sweet treats feeling fulfilled and satisfied.
