Max Verstappen just had one of the hardest Formula 1 seasons in his career this year. Max Verstappen, one of the most well-known drivers with the most consecutive Grand Prix victories (10) and most wins in a single season (19) was in a struggle. At the end of August, after the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, he was a total of 104 points behind Oscar Piastri. Many fans and racers thought that his chance to win another title for the season was gone and that a comeback wouldn’t be possible. Lando Norris and McLaren were far ahead, and the Red Bull Racing team didn’t seem in a good enough position to catch up; however, the team kept going.
In the second half of the season, many were surprised to see them continue to work hard. Max began to perform well and went on to win five of eight races between Italy and Qatar. Problems in McLaren helped him close the gap and by the time the last race in Abu Dhabi came around, he was just 12 points behind Norris. He was able to stay strong and perform well again in qualifying and put his car in pole position, the best position on the track at the start. In the race he led with most of the laps and took the win. It was his eighth victory of the season, more than any other driver. However, despite this, Norris still finished on the podium, which was just enough for him to keep the points lead and win the championship by only two points. “From our side, at least we optimized the weekend perfectly – we put it on pole, we won the race, I think in dominant fashion,” Verstappen said.
Despite Verstappen’s failure in the championship, his comeback was extremely impressive. Max still expressed that he was very proud of what he and his team were able to do. They understood how impressive their fight was and how far behind they were in the summer. Their dedication and courage is something that felt like it was straight out of a movie. Max himself also said the comeback was impressive and that he did not care too much about losing the championship. All this really shows is his mindset and how that has led him to have such a successful career. “I’m just very proud of the people I work with; they are my second family, and we will enjoy this moment,” Verstappen said.
In the end, Max Verstappen’s 2025 season may not have ended with a championship trophy, but it delivered something far more memorable: a comeback that reminded the world why he is one of the greatest drivers of his generation. If anything, this season proved that setbacks don’t define Verstappen, they motivate him.
