San Marino High School held their annual showcase, where all student organizations and academic departments get a chance to show off their talents to current and prospective families. This year’s showcase was held on November 6th. The event began with clubs setting up tables in the quad. Each club engaged with visitors in its own unique way. The Yearbook brought out several books to display, the orchestra performed next to the cafeteria, and the grad night table featured a giant life-size replica of Chewbacca.
Then, later on in the evening, visitors gathered in the Neher Auditorium, where Dr. Wolf, our principal, presented information about the school, along with other administrators. The showcase is a unique opportunity to brag about the wonderful school that we have to the community. “San Marino is one of the last high schools to be awarded the Blue Ribbon from the Department of Education. San Marino has three times the number of Berkeley admits than the national average,” Dr. Wolf said.
Then, performances from the choir, the marching band, and the dance company followed. Visitors were excited about these performances, especially families with middle school-aged students, who were looking forward to potentially joining the choir department, instrumental music department, and dance department.
After the performances concluded, ASB officers gave visitors guided tours around the campus. Teachers from all different academic departments opened their classrooms for visitors to see. The world languages department showed off projects of students speaking Spanish and Chinese. The math department explained the flexible and rigorous math pathways that San Marino offers. The visual and performing arts classes continued their performances throughout the night. The science department had different scientific demonstrations for visitors to interact with. “Mr. Silver is very popular. I think he found a new physicist,” Kailin Duan, biology teacher, said.
