After an exciting first half against the Montebello Oilers, the San Marino Titan Football team ran to the locker room holding onto a 27-0 lead. Parents, students, and faculty members joined together on September 19th to celebrate alumni entering the Titan Hall of Fame. Committee member Bill Ukropina (class of 1974) announced the induction of new members.
The San Marino Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes alumni of serious character and integrity. These alumni have and are actively achieving professional or community-recognized excellence across varied diverse fields. By recognizing these alumni and honoring their life stories, many students felt supported and inspired to reach for their own excellence. “It was inspiring to be able to learn and hear all the different careers that the San Marino alumni were in, and I am definitely grateful to be able to connect with and discover how our school has evolved and changed over time,” ASB Secretary, Claire Huang (11), said.
Ukropina first announced a member in the second class of San Marino High School, class of 1956, Andy Bacher who was honored for his achievements in the field of science. Following Bacher, Douglas Stewart (class of 1958), followed and was recognized for his successful career as a screenwriter and film director.
As the celebration concluded, Ukropina ended with the introduction of class of 2011 military service member Oliver Campbell. After graduating from San Marino, Campbell became a Seargant who was stationed in Afghanistan. But, in January 2016, Campbell was hit five times by insurgent gunfire. Fortunately, Campbell made a recovery. He now attends Dartmouth College, where he lives an active lifestyle, supported by the San Marino community.
Campbell alongside all new 2025 inductees and three 2024 inductees, Bob Horgan, Bill Redell, and Steve Talt, gathered for a photo. Bill Ukropina finished the half time commemoration with a reminder that the following day, September 20th, at 4pm there would be a final Alumni Induction party.
The Saturday event was a major success, filled with finger food and astounding speeches. It was held in San Marino High School’s main quad, becoming a full circle moment all inductees will never forget. The Master of Ceremonies, Jorge L. Jarrin (class of 1973), was a 2024 inductee. Alike all other 2024 and 2025 inductees, Jorge also had carried on a long legacy, building a strong name in sports broadcasting. The celebration, lasting multiple days and being enjoyed by all, concluded.
