To kick off the new school year, ASB held the annual Fall Assembly on Friday, September 19. Students were filed into the Neher Auditorium where all grades came together to mark the beginning of sports season, activities, and school spirit. The assembly began with a performance from the marching band which played the alma mater, “Land of 1000 Dances,” “Shut Up and Dance,” “Runaway Baby,” “Hey Baby,” and “Go Big Blue.” While some were anxious performing in front of the school, some returners were able to keep calm. “I’ve performed at assemblies before, so it wasn’t a big shock or too unfamiliar, but I enjoy it a lot,” Morgan Ly, 10, said.
Following the marching band, ASB welcomed students and staff, setting the tone for the season. They announced several upcoming events such as football games, clubs, activities, and Homecoming week in October. Additionally, ASB announced the annual coronation dance’s theme “A Night in Wonderland.” Getting involved in campus life whether it be through dances, sports, clubs, or performing arts was also highly encouraged. Turning to sports, all fall season sports including, cheer, girls and boys cross-country, girls flag football, boys football, girls golf, boys water polo, girls volleyball, and girls tennis were invited on stage to introduce themselves and share updates on their seasons. Captains and co-captains gave short comments on their goals for the season and encouraged classmates to come show support at matches. Dance Company and JV/Varsity Cheer were invited onstage to perform a number of dances including “Abracadabra” and a remix of “Disturbia” and “Blood on My Hands.” “Performing at the fall assembly with my other members was so fun,” Riley Trinh, 10, said.
ASB organized games toward the end of the assembly to finish on an entertaining note. One highlight was an all-student game of Simon Says, where students were selected from the crowd to compete onstage. The games brought loud cheering from the audience and added variety to the assembly, showcasing ASB’s efforts to make the assembly a fun and exciting experience for everyone.
The assembly concluded with a reminder of the importance of school spirit and participation. Our Principal, Dr. Wolf, encouraged everyone to carry enthusiasm throughout the semester as well as school spirit.
