The gym was filled with pink as the frosh, JV, and varsity volleyball teams played against Poly for the annual Dig Pink game, an event that took place on October 3rd, dedicated to raising awareness and support for breast cancer research. The gym was lined with supportive posters and vibrant shades of pink. The event started with Frosh, setting the tone for the evening with great serves and rallies. “Our defense was super solid, and everyone worked together to keep the energy up and overall, I’m really proud of how we played,” Alison Tam, 10, said.
Adding to the successful game, Andrea Jimenez, 10, also achieved her first ace, a serve that directly results in a point for the serving team. When they sealed the final point to win the match in two sets, the players erupted into cheers, marking the first win of the night.
The JV team followed with just as much enthusiasm, wanting to continue the winning streak. JV worked really well under pressure, especially in serve-receive and at the net. Their ability to adjust and stay positive as a team showed their dedication and communication. “It wasn’t an easy game because their team was very aggressive, but I think we handled it very well. Kylie saved the game with her strong hits and our setter, Megan, did such a great job,” Erin Sagkan, 9, said.
Finally, the varsity team took the court, greeted by a gym packed with students and families wearing pink to show support. The match was long, with long rallies and supportive chants by teammates and families. Poly won the first set, but varsity quickly bounced back, winning set two. Despite Poly’s strong defense, set three went smoothly with varsity’s smart plays that kept them in control. After a great final set, the team secured the third and final win of the night, breaking Poly’s winning streak and ending Dig Pink on a high note
