If there’s one American athlete in the world who is synonymous with greatness, it would be Lebron James. Lebron, for what now seems to be an eternity, has been an ever-present, dominant force in the NBA that has firmly cemented himself in the pantheon of greats. Approaching year 22 in the league, he has won 4 MVPs and 4 championships, been a 20 time all star and all-NBA level player, and is now the all time points leader of the NBA. Despite his old age, Lebron has continued to play at an elite level, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game last season.
Now, Lebron is on the precipice of achieving one of the most impressive feats in NBA history: playing with his son Bronny. Of course, it’s important to note that Bronny’s inclusion into the league has been marred by controversy. Despite being a 55th round pick, people have been quick to call out Bronny’s supposed lack of talent, and rightfully so. In college, Bronny averaged 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting from the field with solid defense, stats that wouldn’t necessarily scream NBA-caliber player. He also went into cardiac arrest over the summer last year, and while his recovery is commendable, his health issues have raised numerous concerns from fans. As the son of Lebron James, one of the most iconic athletes of all time, Bronny is also facing incomprehensible pressure from fans, players, and analysts alike, with millions of fans anticipating his failure. Still, despite being on the brink of history, Bronny is taking his time to acclimate to the league. In fact, Lebron himself has come out to the media to announce that the Lakers will not be rushing this chance at history. “Whenever it happens, it will happen. If it’s tonight or if it’s down the line, whenever it happens, it will happen. But it’s been a treat, and just in preseason, the practices, just every day … just bringing him up to speed of what this professional life is all about and how to prepare everyday as a professional,” Lebron said.
